Breckenridge Athletics Weekly Update [8/25โ€“8/31]

The first full week of fall sports brought plenty of excitement for Huskie fans. Varsity football opened the season with a big win under the lights, JV football exploded offensively in their victory, and both volleyball teams swept Merrill in convincing fashion. On the equestrian side, Lauralei turned in a championship performance at Districts, while the sideline cheer squad kept the Friday night energy alive. Cross country and girls golf were idle, but the buzz around Breckenridge athletics is only growing.

Still working on getting pictures from all sports. I donโ€™t have football action shots yet, but weโ€™ll get those added soon!

Varsity Football

The Huskies wasted no time setting the tone for the season, defeating Charlton Heston 21-6 in front of an energized home crowd. After forcing an early stop, Breckenridge scored its first touchdown of the season on their second drive, never looking back.

Quarterback Gavin Corbat was sharp and composed, completing 8 of 10 passes for 138 yards. Senior Trey Most led the ground game with three touchdowns and 67 yards, while sophomore Carter Suhr added 66 tough yards on 16 carries. Noah Barr stood out in the passing game, hauling in five receptions for 106 yards.

Defensively, Breckenridge swarmed to the football all night, holding Charlton Heston to a single touchdown. Braxton Clapp was everywhere, finishing with 17 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack.

Equestrian

Breckenridgeโ€™s lone rider, Lauralei, had a standout three-day performance at the District 17 meet. Competing in 15 events across Western, Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, and Gymkhana, her dedication shined through. She swept first place in Western Showmanship each day and capped the weekend with a new personal best in barrels, running 17.21 seconds to win by more than 1.5 seconds. Lauralei was crowned District 17 Division D Champion and will now advance to Regionals.

Sideline Cheer

The sideline cheer team added to the Friday night atmosphere, keeping the crowd engaged and energized throughout the varsity football game. Their hard work is paying off and the results were clear under the lights.

The Huskies are off to a strong start across multiple sports, with both team and individual performances giving the community plenty to cheer about.

Elementary Homecoming Spirit Week Days!

Homecoming is September 19th!

Elementary Homecoming Days
Huskie Families,

As we return to school, Iโ€™m reminded every day of the true purpose that drives us as educators. Day-to-day challenges will always come up, but seeing our students learning, growing, and engaging with their teachers gives us the energy to keep moving forward. Whether itโ€™s a hug from a kindergartener, a high five from a third grader, or a middle schooler asking โ€œHow tall is Mr. Poling?โ€ these moments remind us why we do what we do.

Our teachers are focusing on teaching routines and procedures, taking the time to explain not just the โ€œhow,โ€ but also the โ€œwhyโ€ behind what we do. Understanding expectations helps students feel confident and sets them up for success in and out of the classroom.

Our students are our purpose and our goal. By working togetherโ€”staff, families, and studentsโ€”one team, one goal, every student thrives. Thank you for supporting your childโ€™s learning at home and helping us create an environment where every student can grow and succeed.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! We look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and ready for another great week of learning.

Breckenridge Athletics Weekly Update [8/18โ€“8/24]
It was a big opening week for Breckenridge Athletics as our Huskies made their mark across multiple sports. The volleyball teams hit the court strong with varsity storming through an undefeated quad and JV showing promise at Saranac. Cross country runners battled through the Happy Acres Invite, with the boys taking home a first-place team finish and the girls securing a top-five spot. On the links, girls golf impressed in their first home match of the season, finishing just four strokes off the top spot. Meanwhile, Lauralei McGill continued to shine in equestrian, proving sheโ€™s one to watch heading into district competition.
Varsity Volleyball
The Huskies opened their season with authority at Saranac, sweeping all three opponents in Thursdayโ€™s quad. Breckenridge defeated Zion Christian (25-12, 25-18), Carson City-Crystal (25-8, 25-7), and Saranac (25-14, 25-11).

Equestrian
Breckenridgeโ€™s own Lauralei McGill has been making waves in the arena this summer. Competing in the Michigan 4-H State Horse Show, she finished as a Top 5 Championโ€”a remarkable achievement. McGill now sets her sights on the District Meet taking place this weekend, with hopes of building on her impressive season.
Cross Country
The Huskie runners turned in strong performances at the Happy Acres Invite in Webberville. The boys edged out the competition by four points to capture 1st place as a team, while the girls, competing with a short roster, still managed a solid 5th place finish out of nine teams.
Girls Medalists:
Maizy Matthews โ€“ 2nd, 21:24 (PR)
Maezee Humm โ€“ 11th, 23:58 (PR)

Girls Golf
With eight players on the rosterโ€”five returners and three newcomersโ€”the girls golf team is off to a promising start. After opening with a scramble in Perry, the Huskies hosted their first official match at The Ridge in Breckenridge on Thursday. Against six schools, the Huskies finished 2nd overall with a team score of 213, just four strokes behind Hemlock.
