Breckenridge Athletics Weekly Update [4/7โ4/13]
Spring sports are officially heating upโliterally and figurativelyโas the weather warms and the competition intensifies! This week saw our teams take big strides and face strong challenges. From a huge track performance under the lights in Fowler, to softballโs bounce-back win in the Carrollton Tournament, and baseballโs close battles in Evart, our Huskies showed grit, growth, and glimpses of whatโs to come!
๐ Track & Field
On Friday night, the team competed at the Fowler Under the Lights Invite where the temps dropped fast, but the Huskies' performances stayed ๐ฅ.
Andrew Clark had a standout night, winning the shot put with a throw of 49'4.5 and qualifying for the state finalsโour first of the season!
Zander Mapes grabbed 2nd in both shot put and discus.
Trey Most placed 6th in both 400m and high jump.
Anthony Rowe finished 5th in the 1600m with a strong 4:50.
Our relay teams had a great showing, including the 4x1 team of Raegyn Mayer, Kayla Goward, Kylo Riedel, and BayLeigh Clapp finishing 2nd.
Jenny Short crushed her PRs in the 100 and 200, winning her heat and placing 2nd in her next.
Vanny Potter also PR'ed in discus (51'3) and Braylon Mayle in the 400 (dropped from 59.63 to 57.8).
Next up: Our home meet Thursdayโcome out and support!
โพ Baseball
The Huskies opened the week Tuesday at Sacred Heart, where tough pitching from the Irish held our bats in check.
In Game 1, Gavin Corbat doubled and pitched for the Huskies, while Isaac Bush and Noah Barr also added hits in the 9-0 loss.
In Game 2, four different HuskiesโMikel Wolgast, Dylan Davenport, Bentley Maclaren, and Keegan Suhrโcollected singles in a 15-1 defeat.
On Friday, the boys traveled to Evart for a hard-fought doubleheader.
Game 1 was a nail-biter ending in a 4-3 loss, and Game 2 came down to the wire again, with the Huskies falling just short, 5-4. These close contests show that this young team is on the brink of breaking through!
๐ฅ Softball
The Huskies took the diamond on Tuesday at Sacred Heart, where Ava Colthorp and Adyson Collins had hits in Game 1, and Liberty Short and Brooklynn Long drove in runs in Game 2.
Fridayโs doubleheader at St. Louis was filled with highlights.
In Game 1, the Huskies outhit the Sharks but came up just short, 8-5. Collins struck out nine in a dominant start, and Colthorp knocked in two runs.
In Game 2, Breckenridge exploded for five runs in one inning behind RBIs from Collins, Davenport, and Slavik, but St. Louis edged it out 10-8.
The Carrollton Tournament on Saturday brought both challenge and triumph. After a tough 22-1 loss to Lake Fenton, the Huskies bounced back in a 13-4 win over Carrollton! Adyson Collins had a monster day at the plate with three hits and three RBIs, and Leah Wale pitched five solid innings for the win.
โณ Golf
The boys are finally ready to tee off their season! They'll hit the course on Wednesday at Montabella for the first MSAC Jamboree of the year. Good luck, Huskies!
