Breckenridge Athletics Weekly Update (12/8-12/15)
This week, we celebrated our Winter Athletics Showcase, honoring all 76 of our high school winter athletes and their hard work and dedication. We also took a moment to recognize Jaxon Laubscher and Megan Goward for reaching the impressive milestone of 1,000 career points, as well as celebrating last year’s girls’ basketball district championship. Here’s a look at the highlights from the week:
JV Bowling:
The JV bowling team faced Ithaca on Friday night and came up short, but the growth and progress of our young bowlers are already evident this season. Several players achieved new season highs during the match—great work, Huskies!

Varsity Bowling:
The Huskies bowling teams had a strong week on the lanes! Saturday, the girls dominated a short-handed Coleman squad with a decisive 26-4 victory, setting a new school record in the process. The boys faced a tough match against CCC, narrowly falling 14-16 in a battle that came down to the last frame. Undeterred, they bounced back with an impressive 27-3 win over Coleman.
Girls Highlights:
Miranda Bloomquist set a new all-time Huskies record with a personal-best (PB) 214!
Raegyn Mayer averaged 163.
Kacie Cartwright tied her season high (SH) with 153.
Boys Highlights:
Kaydence Smith rolled a PB of 174.
Cooper Moulton scored a PB of 165.
Ryan Quick hit a PB of 161.
Harland Story achieved a SH of 154.
Girls Basketball:
The Huskies girls' basketball teams showcased incredible determination and teamwork this week, overcoming challenges and delivering standout performances in two exciting matchups!
Varsity: Against St. Charles, the girls fought back from an early deficit but came up just short, falling 42-38. Maddie Breece led the team with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 steals, while Kayla Goward added 9 rebounds and 5 steals. They bounced back in a big way against Coleman, dominating with a 45-15 win, highlighted by Goward's 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 12 steals, and Breece's 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals.
JV: The JV team started the week with a hard-fought 39-28 comeback victory over St. Charles, led by Lydia Slavik's impressive 22 points and Da’sia Denwiddie's 7 points. They followed up with a commanding 29-3 win over Coleman, with Slavik scoring 14 points and Brinley Humm adding 8 points.
The Huskies continue to show resilience and teamwork. Keep up the fight!
Boys Basketball:
The Huskies boys' basketball teams had an action-packed week, showcasing their skills and resilience on the court!
Varsity: The boys opened the week with an impressive 55-30 victory over St. Charles on Wednesday, led by standout performances from Noah Barr, who dropped 27 points, and Zander Mapes, who added 9 points. On Friday, they battled hard against Coleman in a nail-biter, ultimately falling 49-52. The team had two solid chances to tie the game in the final minutes but couldn’t get the shots to drop. Top performers included Noah Barr with 15 points, Aimon Humm with 10 points, Zander Mapes with 7 points, and Trey Most and Blaze Snyder, each with 6 points.
JV: The JV squad brought their A-game this week, starting with a win over St. Charles on Wednesday. Top contributors were Isaac Bush with 14 points, Dylan Davenport with 9 points, and Gavin Corbat with 8 points. On Friday, they dominated Coleman with a commanding 60-18 victory, highlighted by Gavin Corbat’s 22 points, Isaac Bush’s 21 points, and Chase Beard’s 6 points.
Great work this week, Huskies! Keep pushing forward and bringing the energy!
Competitive Cheer:
The Competitive Cheer team is putting in the work and gearing up for their first competition in January. Keep pushing, Huskies — your dedication is going to pay off!
Wrestling:
The Huskies wrestling team hit the mats on 12/7, showing grit and determination despite having a small and relatively inexperienced squad.
Brayden Harvkey put in a strong effort, finishing the day 1-2, while Manny Coyle made his debut on the mat, going 0-2 but demonstrating tremendous progress and perseverance.
Great work, Huskies! Keep building and improving each day. Your hard work is paying off!

Hey Huskie Fans!
Join us tonight at the Boys JV & Varsity Home Basketball game. Between games, we will be shouting out our outstanding winter athletics programs and showcasing our student athletes for the 24/25 winter season. Entry is $5 per person but Breckenridge 6th-12th grade students get in for free. Over 62 years old and under 5 years old are free as well. Thanks for all your support - we couldn't do it without all of you!
Breckenridge United Methodist Church will also be hosting a free 5th quarter event for Breckenridge 9th-12th grade students after the game!

Kindergarten & 1st Grade Fine Arts Night will be Monday, December 16th at 6:00 p.m in the Elementary Gym. Parents please have your child in their classroom at 5:40 p.m. to line up. If you arrive early your child must remain with you until 5:40.
Please have your child dress up in traditional holiday colors ( green, white, red and gold). They may wear santa hats or reindeer antlers but please not a huge hat or anything with bells.

Each month, high school students visit Breckenridge Elementary to connect with younger students through PACK (Positive Actions Connecting Kids). This initiative provides valuable opportunities for modeling, mentoring, and leadership. It's a day both high school and elementary students eagerly anticipate, fostering meaningful relationships and school pride.
A big thank you to our dedicated staff in both buildings for organizing this impactful experience. Huskies, you’re making a difference and truly embodying what it means to be part of the PACK! 🐾🐾
