Breckenridge Athletics Weekly Update (May 5โ€“May 11) The final week of school for our seniors was packed with strong finishes, school records, and spirited competition across all sports. From school records in track to top finishes in golf, our Huskies made sure their presence was felt. Despite some tough battles on the diamond, our athletes showed grit and heart.. Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms in our communityโ€”thank you for being the heart of our support system! โ›ณ Boys Golf The boys golf team had a fantastic week, beginning with a commanding win at the MSAC Jamboree at St. Charles. The Huskies dominated the leaderboard, placing all five varsity golfers in the top 11, including four in the top four. Blaze Snyder led the charge, winning the event with a score of 43. Carter Suhr followed closely with a 45, Keegan Suhr shot a 46, and Noah Barr carded a 47 to complete the top four sweep. On Friday, the team competed at The Fields in Ithaca against a strong field of eight larger schools and came away with an impressive 2nd place finish with a team score of 347. Snyder continued his stellar play, firing a 78 to finish in the top 10 alongside teammate Noah Barr, who shot an 84. The Huskies are peaking at the right time! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Track & Field The Huskie track teams delivered dominant performances this week. On Tuesday at the MSAC Jamboree, both the boys and girls squads captured first placeโ€”girls with 164 points and boys with 141. Individual winners included: Boys: Anthony Rowe (800m, 1600m), Zander Mapes (Shot Put, Discus), and the 4x400m relay team of Brock Mayle, Braylon Mayle, Maddax McCaw, and Anthony Rowe. Girls: Raegyn Mayer (100m), Daโ€™sia Denwiddie (200m), Kylo Riedel (100m Hurdles), and the 4x200m (Riedel, Mayer, Kayla Goward, Denwiddie) and 4x800m (Maizy Matthews, Avery Westall, Ally Schmitz, Danica Aldrich) relays. On Friday, the team traveled to Alma. The girls team placed 3rd in the small school division, defeating Alma and Ithaca, while the boys placed 5th. Medal winners included: Boys: Zander Mapesโ€”2nd in Discus (156'9"), 3rd in Shot Put (47'2"), and Andrew Clarkโ€”2nd in Shot Put (48'2"). Girls: BayLeigh Clappโ€”5th in the 100m (13.42), 3rd in Long Jump (16'0.75); Daโ€™sia Denwiddieโ€”6th in 200m (PR 27.62), 5th in 400m (1:02.80); Emma Tinsonโ€”6th in Discus (PR 96'2); Raegyn Mayerโ€”6th in Long Jump (15'3.5). Highlight of the week: the 4x200m girls relay team of Riedel, Mayer, Goward, and Denwiddie broke the school record, clocking in at 1:51.56! โšพ Baseball The Huskie baseball team hosted the Huskie Invite on Saturday, welcoming larger schools and battling hard in two competitive games. In Game 1, Breckenridge fell to Central Montcalm 10-4 despite out hitting their opponent 6-4. The Huskies took an early lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Dylan Davenport. Keegan Suhr, Braxton Clapp, Gavin Corbat, Davenport, Noah Barr, and Isaac Bush all collected hits. Suhr, Clapp, and Davenport each drove in a run. Blaze Snyder took the mound and went 2.2 innings, giving up nine runs (six earned) and striking out one. In Game 2, Breckenridge dropped a close 5-2 decision to Hemlock. Keegan Suhr pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs and striking out two. Blaze Snyder led the offense with two hits, and Suhr added an RBI to his pitching performance. While the results didnโ€™t go in the Huskiesโ€™ favor, the boys showed they can compete with bigger schools and are continuing to improve every week. ๐ŸฅŽ Softball The Huskie softball team hosted Alma on Friday and battled through two games, showing resilience and flashes of power at the plate. In Game 1, Breckenridge fell 5-3. Lily St. John opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, and the Huskies made a late push in the sixth when Adyson Collins scored on a sac fly and Emma Tinson crushed a solo home run to center. Collins pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out three. Tinson, Lauralei McGill, Ava Colthorp, Collins, and St. John each recorded a hit. Game 2 saw Alma pull away early in a 13-3 win. Breckenridge jumped out first thanks to an RBI single from Collins. Collins and Lydia Slavik both had two hits, while Colthorp, Collins, and Wale each drove in a run. Leah Wale started in the circle, going three innings and striking out one. Despite the loss, the Huskies are continuing to gain valuable experience as they prepare for postseason play. ๐ŸŽ“ Senior Shoutout & Motherโ€™s Day Wishes Weโ€™d like to give a heartfelt congratulations to our seniors, who wrapped up their final week of high school classes. Your leadership and contributions have made a lasting impact on our athletic programs. And to all the momsโ€”Happy Motherโ€™s Day!
