Breckenridge Athletics Weekly Update [5/12โ5/18]
The Huskies battled through a packed week of postseason pushes, walk-off wins, and championship momentum. From a walk-off victory in baseball to dominant golf on home turf, and a huge day on the track with 13 athletes punching tickets to the state finals, it was a week to remember across the board. Here's a look at how each sport showcased grit, growth, and greatness.
Track & Field
The Huskies traveled to Fowler on Saturday for the MHSAA Regional meetโand what a day it was. The girlsโ team brought home runner-up, and the boys took third overall. Most impressively, 13 Huskie athletes earned qualifications to the MHSAA State Finals, a testament to the depth, dedication, and firepower of the program.
Regional Champions:

McCaw added a 7th-place finish in the 110 hurdles and 6th in long jump.
Andrew Clark placed 3rd in shot put (44โ11.75) and 7th in discus.
Clapp and Mayer each medaled in the 100 meter dash, placing 3rd and 4th respectively.
The boysโ 4x200 relay team of Anthony Blair, Christian Dutton, Jaxton Keller, and Jackson Sterling placed 8th.
The 4x400 team (McCaw, Braylon Mayle, Brock Mayle, Rowe) ran a strong race for 6th.
With the state finals on the horizon, the Huskies are locked in and ready to chase greatness on Michiganโs biggest stage.
Golf
On Thursday, the varsity boysโ golf team capped off a dominant regular season by winning the final MSAC Jamboree at home at The Ridge Golf Course. Not only did they take first place again, but they did it in emphatic fashionโbeating the second-place team by a staggering 34 strokes with a team score of 161.
Blaze led the way, shooting an even-par 35 to win the jamboree. Noah Barr followed close behind with a 38 to take second place, while Keegan Suhr placed third with a 43. Dylan Davenport and Derek Becker each carded a 45 (T-7th), and Justin Toner rounded out the scoring with a 47 (10th). All six Huskie golfers finished in the top 10โa true team performance heading into this weekโs 18-hole MSAC Championship at The Emerald.
Baseball
The varsity baseball team traveled to Vestaburg on Monday for a doubleheader that showcased both resilience and potential. In Game 1, the Huskies fell to Vestaburg 5-2 despite a strong effort on the mound by Noah Barr, who struck out seven batters across three innings. Gavin Corbat and Barr each drove in a run in the loss.
Game 2 brought redemption. In a thrilling finish, Breckenridge pulled out a 4-3 walk-off win. Gavin Corbat was dominant on the mound with 12 strikeouts over six innings. A sixth-inning single by Bentley MacLaren tied the game, and a Vestaburg error in the bottom of the seventh sealed the Huskiesโ dramatic victory. Braxton Clapp led the offense, going 3-for-3, while MacLaren, Corbat, and Dylan Davenport each drove in runs.
Softball
Breckenridge softball had a busy week with four games across two locations. On Monday at Vestaburg, the Huskies opened with a narrow 2-1 win behind a lights-out performance from Adyson Collins, who went the distance allowing zero earned runs. Leah Wale delivered the game-winning hit with a two-run single in the sixth inning.
Game 2 was a tougher outing as the Huskies fell 8-0. Leah Wale started in the circle and battled for seven innings, but timely Vestaburg hits and errors proved too much to overcome.
On Wednesday, Breckenridge hosted Bay City John Glenn and again split the doubleheader. In Game 1, the Huskies fell 11-1 despite a 2-for-2 performance from Ava Colthorp, who also drove in the teamโs only run.
Game 2 flipped the script as the Huskies exploded for a 12-9 victory behind Presley Butcherโs monster day at the plate. Butcher went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs, and two stolen bases. Lydia Slavik collected four hits from the leadoff spot and scored multiple times. Leah Wale and Lily St. John added run-scoring doubles, and Emma Tinson tripled in three. Adyson Collins came on in relief and delivered three and two-thirds innings of strong pitching to close out the win.
