💛 September is Suicide Prevention Month, and our students are leading the way in spreading hope and positivity throughout the building.

✨ NHS students placed Huskies with every student’s name on their lockers to create a warm and welcoming environment.
✨ Student Leadership Team is preparing positive sticky note messages for lockers.
✨ Clubs, sports teams, and organizations have added encouraging signs to lockers.
✨ Bulletin boards are filled with uplifting reminders.
✨ Yellow 988 flags and signs are displayed outside as a visible reminder of support and resources.

We want every student to know: you are not alone. Help is always available through the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or Michigan’s OK2SAY program, where you can confidentially report concerns to keep yourself and others safe.

📚 Our seventh graders kicked off the school year by tackling a big question: Why should we study history? After thoughtful discussions and debates, each class created a human bar graph to see which reasons rose to the top. The winning ideas will serve as our “why” all year long as we dive into the past to better understand the present and shape the future! 👏✨ #HuskiePride

Breckenridge Athletics Weekly Update [8/25–8/31]

The first full week of fall sports brought plenty of excitement for Huskie fans. Varsity football opened the season with a big win under the lights, JV football exploded offensively in their victory, and both volleyball teams swept Merrill in convincing fashion. On the equestrian side, Lauralei turned in a championship performance at Districts, while the sideline cheer squad kept the Friday night energy alive. Cross country and girls golf were idle, but the buzz around Breckenridge athletics is only growing.

Still working on getting pictures from all sports. I don’t have football action shots yet, but we’ll get those added soon!

Varsity Football

The Huskies wasted no time setting the tone for the season, defeating Charlton Heston 21-6 in front of an energized home crowd. After forcing an early stop, Breckenridge scored its first touchdown of the season on their second drive, never looking back.

Quarterback Gavin Corbat was sharp and composed, completing 8 of 10 passes for 138 yards. Senior Trey Most led the ground game with three touchdowns and 67 yards, while sophomore Carter Suhr added 66 tough yards on 16 carries. Noah Barr stood out in the passing game, hauling in five receptions for 106 yards.

Defensively, Breckenridge swarmed to the football all night, holding Charlton Heston to a single touchdown. Braxton Clapp was everywhere, finishing with 17 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack.

Top Performers

Passing: Gavin Corbat – 8/10, 138 yds
Rushing: Trey Most – 15 att, 67 yds, 3 TD; Carter Suhr – 16 att, 66 yds
Receiving: Noah Barr – 5 rec, 106 yds
Defense: Braxton Clapp – 17 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack

Q2 | 6:10 – 8 yd rush, Trey Most, XP good
Q4 | 5:09 – 6 yd rush, Trey Most, 2-pt no good
Final: Breckenridge 21, Charlton Heston 6

JV Football

The JV Huskies dominated St. Charles with a 60-7 victory, showcasing both offensive firepower and defensive toughness. Truman Smith led the way with an incredible five touchdowns and 12 tackles, while Kolton Breece added three receiving scores. Quarterback Ely Chapin threw for three touchdowns and chipped in 10 tackles defensively. On the other side of the ball, Bentley MacLaren was relentless, finishing with 14 tackles to anchor the defense.

Top Performers

Truman Smith – 5 TDs, 12 tackles
Kolton Breece – 3 receiving TDs
Ely Chapin – 3 TD passes, 10 tackles
Bentley MacLaren – 14 tackles

Varsity Volleyball

The volleyball team made a strong statement in their first MSAC match of the season, sweeping Merrill in straight sets (25-8, 25-9, 25-10). The Huskies jumped out early and controlled the match from start to finish with aggressive serving and consistent hitting.

Top Performers

Madi Aldrich – 9 aces, 19 assists, 5 digs
Liz McCaw – 11 kills
Maddie Breece – 7 kills
BayLeigh Clapp & Lexi Smith – 6 kills each

JV Volleyball

The JV squad also had a strong showing, defeating Merrill in three sets (25-7, 25-20, 15-3). The team played with energy and balance, building momentum as the season gets underway.

Top Performers
Aubrey Peak – 8 aces, 9 assists
Lilly Raysby – 7 aces, 1 kill
Sydney Peters – 4 kills

Equestrian

Breckenridge’s lone rider, Lauralei, had a standout three-day performance at the District 17 meet. Competing in 15 events across Western, Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, and Gymkhana, her dedication shined through. She swept first place in Western Showmanship each day and capped the weekend with a new personal best in barrels, running 17.21 seconds to win by more than 1.5 seconds. Lauralei was crowned District 17 Division D Champion and will now advance to Regionals.

Sideline Cheer

The sideline cheer team added to the Friday night atmosphere, keeping the crowd engaged and energized throughout the varsity football game. Their hard work is paying off and the results were clear under the lights.

The Huskies are off to a strong start across multiple sports, with both team and individual performances giving the community plenty to cheer about.

Elementary Homecoming Days
Huskie Families,

As we return to school, I’m reminded every day of the true purpose that drives us as educators. Day-to-day challenges will always come up, but seeing our students learning, growing, and engaging with their teachers gives us the energy to keep moving forward. Whether it’s a hug from a kindergartener, a high five from a third grader, or a middle schooler asking “How tall is Mr. Poling?” these moments remind us why we do what we do.

Our teachers are focusing on teaching routines and procedures, taking the time to explain not just the “how,” but also the “why” behind what we do. Understanding expectations helps students feel confident and sets them up for success in and out of the classroom.

Our students are our purpose and our goal. By working together—staff, families, and students—one team, one goal, every student thrives. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home and helping us create an environment where every student can grow and succeed.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! We look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and ready for another great week of learning.
