Breckenridge Athletics had an exciting week highlighted by the baseball team’s unforgettable experience playing at Dow Diamond. The Huskies battled across all sports, with softball competing in a tight doubleheader against Fulton, track teams winning big at St. Charles and Clare, and boys golf capturing first place at the MSAC Jamboree while competing strong at the Fortress Golf Course. It was a memorable week of growth and grit for the Huskies. Baseball: The Breckenridge Varsity Huskies had a thrilling week, capped by playing at Dow Diamond on Thursday. They battled through four games in three days, showing toughness and growth. On Tuesday, the Huskies traveled to Ashley to face Fulton. In Game 1, they dropped a tough 2-1 walk-off loss despite strong pitching from Noah Barr and Gavin Corbat. Dylan Davenport led the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. In Game 2, Breckenridge fell 8-2 but showed good patience, drawing 11 walks. Davenport and Blaze Snyder each drove in a run, while Barr earned three walks. Thursday at Dow Diamond featured two games against Hemlock. In Game 1, the Huskies rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game before falling 5-4 on a walk-off. Barr was clutch, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a game-tying triple. In Game 2, Breckenridge bounced back strong, handing Hemlock their first loss of the season with an 11-3 win. Braxton Clapp went 3-for-4, while Davenport, Justin Pryor, Keegan Suhr, and Clapp all drove in runs during a seven-run fifth inning. Barr earned the win on the mound, striking out six, and the team stole five bases. Track: The Breckenridge track teams had a strong week, competing at St. Charles on Tuesday and Clare later in the week. At St. Charles, both teams claimed wins—girls with 101 points and boys with 98. Top performers included BayLeigh Clapp (1st in 100m and long jump), Da’sia Denwiddie (1st in 200m), and Kylo Riedel (1st in 100m hurdles). Girls relay teams swept the 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x800m, while EmaLee Noack won high jump. For the boys, Trey Most (1st in 400m and high jump), Maddax McCaw (1st in 110m hurdles), plus victories in the 4x400m and 4x800m relays led the way, with strong throws by Andrew Clark (shot put) and Zander Mapes (discus). At Clare, the girls were crowned Small School Champions, while the boys battled to a close 3rd place, decided by the 4x400m relay. Highlights included BayLeigh Clapp winning the long jump and taking 3rd in the 100m, Da’sia Denwiddie finishing 2nd in the 400m, and Zander Mapes earning 2nd in discus and 3rd in shot put. Andrew Clark placed 4th in shot put. Boys Golf: The Boys golf team traveled to Mt. Pleasant Country Club on Wednesday and competed in their second MSAC Jamboree (9 holes). The Huskies came in first place winning by 21 strokes. They were led by Dylan Davenport and Noah Barr both shooting 44s. Blaze Snyder came in with a 45. Keegan Suhr and Dereck Becker shot 52s and Freshman Carter Suhr playing in his first varsity match shot a 53. Friday the boys competed in the Frankenmuth Eagle Invitational hosted by the Fortress Golf Course, which has been recognized as the #1 public course in Michigan by GolfPass's Golfers' Choice awards. The Huskies competed against some of the top teams in Divisions 1-4 as all teams were preparing for regional play on a challenging course. The boys represented Breckenridge well, finishing with the best score among the Division 4 teams. Leading the way was Blaze Snyder with a nice 87, Noah Barr carded a 92, Dylan Davenport grinded out a 96. Keegan Suhr shot a respectable 102 and Dereck Becker came in with a hard fought 106. Great Job Boys Softball: The Breckenridge Huskies traveled to Ashley on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Fulton. Despite battling hard, they came up just short in both games. In Game 1, Breckenridge took an early lead but fell 8-5. Lydia Slavik started the scoring with a solo home run, and Leah Wale followed with a two-run double. Additional runs came from errors forced by Adyson Collins and Emma Tinson. Collins started in the circle, striking out eight over six innings. Wale led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. In Game 2, the Huskies again found themselves in a close game, falling 6-5. Tinson tied the game early with a double, and Collins singled to give Breckenridge a 3-2 lead in the second. Wale pitched, striking out five across six innings. Ava Colthorp led the offense, going 3-for-4, while Tinson, Lily St. John, Collins, and Presley Butcher each added an RBI. Although the wins didn’t come this time, the Huskies showed great resilience, strong pitching, and solid approaches at the plate. 🐾 Go Huskies!
